These endpoints coincide with the different AdaptiveWork domains, generally EU or US.
If your production login is https://eu1.clarizen.com then use https://apie1.clarizen.com for API.
If your production login is https://app2.clarizen.com then use https://api.clarizen.com for API.
There are also endpoints for Sandbox/Testbench https://apie.clarizentb.com and https://api.clarizentb.com.

Actually, I’ve just confirmed that this is something relatively new. They both work and that’s intended, though, it might be a little faster to use the API endpoint that aligns with your region.
