Hi community - I’m having an issue with pulling a report that shows a list of all our portfolio projects, however the report is pulling both parent and sub projects, ultimately double counting. Does anyone have any tips on how to only show:
projects with no sub projects +
sub projects of projects with parents
For example, project “a” has sub projects “b” and “c”. Our reporting is pulling through metrics from project “a”, “b”, and “c” which is double counting, inflating our metrics.
Any tips are greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Hey @kayla.schwarz
If you’re running into double-counting in Planview AdaptiveWork reports, here’s a quick trick using the ParentProject field to keep things tidy:
To see only top-level (standalone) projects:
Add a filter on the ParentProject field
Set the condition to Equals
Set the value to ConstraintSpecialValue
To see only sub-projects:
Add a filter on the ParentProject field
Set the condition to Not Equals
Set the value to ConstraintSpecialValue
By applying one of these filters, you’ll get a clean, focused report either just standalone projects or just sub-projects without any double-counting.
Hope this helps keep your portfolio reporting neat and accurate!
Hi Archana, thanks so much for your response however I don’t see an option in the filter to set “Parent Project” to “ConstraintSpecialValue”. I only see the ability to set the filter “Parent Project” to Equals, Not Equal, Is One Of, Is Not One Of, Black or Non-Blank. I tried non black but that still showed the parent projects.
It does not allow me to select “ConstraintSpecialValue” it only allows me to select a specific project.
Hello! Did you find a solution to this? I’m facing the same challenge.
Could be as simple as introducing a naming convention for first level projects, and then add that as a filter to reports.
Or you can add this as a filter in any report where you want to exclude subprojects:
