Howdy,

We are currently trying to simplify our Change Control process. It seems we keep having problems keeping our plans and financials correct when we are going though the Change Requests. Curious to hear how everyone else handles Change Requests.

What do you mean by problems with the plans and financials?  The way we’ve done it is the financials are only impacted if there is a certain dollar amount being changed.  This works in conjunction with a process outside of Planview as our Finance department needs to sign off on it.  This updates the approved spend (baseline) version and not our forecast version.

Yes we have it set the same way. In our change lifecycle we copy our actual to our change control versions where we can edit and make the changes needed. If it gets approved we copy control change over to actual. If the change does not get approved we restore back to our actual/forecast. Just need to find an easier way to do this as the PM’s seem to get confused during the process and end up messing up their plan or financials. I guess its just the way the baselines work and having to restore it instead of just clicking on it and seeing the data from that baseline.

I can see that being problematic.  We allow are PMs to make adjustments to the actual/forecast version as needed.  However the approved spend version (our baseline) is set in stone and can only be modified with Finance and VP approval.  If we get approval for that project we set a baseline and copy over the approved spend from actuals/forecast.
