The Roadmap feature for Project or Portfolio work plans as a ton of potential, but is hard to get value from in current state. Here are a few quick hitting ideas that could make this feature a lot more valuable to organizations like ours:

  1. Because there can be overlap in Milestone timelines, spacing out the Milestone bars into separate ‘collapsible/expandable rows’ would make it much easier to read (similar to a Gantt view from the milestone level, but on the roadmap).
  1. Ability to add Key Dates (i.e. an important task/milestone dates) as a callout to a specific project. Currently the Key Dates feature adds it generically to the roadmap and its manually created. This especially becomes unclear which project a date belongs to on a Portfolio roadmap. It would also be nice to just select a work item/date from the work plan.
  2. Ability to add roadmaps to a dashboard.

These are all great points Patrick and I would add my vote of support for all the enhancements you raise.  I would also add that I would love to see the roadmap always visible in the project, rather than hidden in a ‘pop out’ window.  The roadmap is such a powerful visual, being much easier than searching through the full workplan to understand progress, but I feel the true power of the roadmap is lost as it isn’t visible by default.

Hi Patrick - thank you for your very detailed post which brings to light a few questions. I would like to reflect on this topic before coming back with an answer.

Please stay tuned.

Further to the above, an option to pull roadmap in a nice visualisation to slide publisher, allowing filters and colour coding would be great. It is a while I tried it, but ideally you can define which items from your Work-Plan should be shown in Roadmap (Milestones, Work-Items - a kind of selection)
