We are having to pull the implementation of logbook back because users are complaining they are not tell what projects logs are associated.  We would have to add a field and manually type this in.  In the past the CRIs always list the name of the project they were associated with.  We can do Items with in a project but do to standard templates every project can have something with the same name.

And pull anything by Portfolio is not doable.

has anyone found any work arounds for these. Users love the idea of logbook but these are show stoppers.  .

@JWilliams24 - Curiosity question, where are they reviewing their logs at?  Do you have a report that displays all log items?  We are still testing this functionality so trying to learn as much as I can of the pros/cons.

Thank you

Hi @JWilliams24 , thanks for reaching out. Could you please share where are you checking these log items? Also, you can pull log items for a work portfolio - the Work Portfolio Dashboard can be set up to use the Logbook OData service.

We are also  interested in and trying to work through pulling all log items for a work Portfolio. It’s a show stopper for 2 of my Business Areas in utilizing Planview for work management.  It seems that the only consideration for the log book was at the work level ONLY

Hi @Mark Hoffmann , Logbook allows creation/management of information in the context of work and strategy entities. Portfolio is a filtered list of these entities and that’s why you won’t be able to create a log item against a portfolio today. But as per your comment above, your interest seems to be able to visualize log entries for all projects within a work portfolio. If this is the case, then you can achieve this using the ‘Work Portfolio Dashboard’ which can pull all Logbook entries from project/work entities from a particular work portfolio. A snapshot of the dashboard is attached here:

In this dashboard, you will be able to view Logbook entries by project/work.

Do let us know if this helped resolve your need.

Thanks!

Did you build a new report or is this available with a recent release?  We are on May 2025 release and I could not find in our PV instance.
