We have two financial models, one for programs and the other for projects. When we do the planning portfolio in the capacity part, we select a program and the financial model of programs appears naturally. In the demand part a predefined project financial model appears and I cannot select the new one I created
We’re just testing the June release of Portfolios and see the Product Switcher ‘enhancement’ that brings access to the associated Planview Admin modules means we no longer have the ability to navigate directly from Portfolios to EA (EA is not yet on PV Admin).Has anyone discovered an alternative workaround to this which doesn’t involve giving our EA users different URLs to manually navigate to?This seems like a significant oversight and is potentially a showstopper for us taking monthly updates until it is resolved! I’d be keen to hear Planview’s reasoning as to why this navigation to EA has been lost, or what alternatives can be provided
In what seems like a never-ending task of hunting down Resource Managers who keep corrupting our Project plans through various shortcuts they’ve found, I’ve just run into a new symptoms I’ve not spotted previously and have no idea how they’ve done it.Here we have resource allocated with a Scheduled Finish date AND and Actual Finish date - My understanding was that, whatever you do within Planview, it’s one or the other. Task is Open/Active, resources have previous time recorded against the requirement, and views from the PM that somebody has recently gone in and messed up their plan. This is a scenario which I just can’t reproduce. Anyone any clues what they would have done to drive different dates into each?
Is there a way to get a notification on a subscription to know if it successfully completed or failed?
HI, we are using Portfolios without Timekeeping and with spotty Resource management usage. Our PMs are struggling with the Progressing Engine (and Scheduling Engine) moving task dates. We are considering if we should turn off the Progressing Engine because we are not sure the value for us. Has anyone turned it off or is considering doing so?
Hi - Is there a defined Planview.ME roadmap to see what widgets are being made available to Planview.Me and when? A lot of stakeholders were expecting a bit more to be released after some of the demos/news about Planview.Me. I also question if it’s worth it to introduce Planview.me to our stakeholders without knowing if we’ll be getting new widgets, what those widgets will be, and when they are planned to be delivered. Any information on this would be very helpful, Thanks!
We’re keen to understand whether anyone else has experienced the same issues we have with financial tracking and how these have been overcome (within Planview or through other solutions) - please share your experiences below! We’ve been running Portfolios for 18 months now and one of the greatest omissions from our config and subsequently one of the biggest areas of feedback and pain points for our PM community was a solution to manage transactional level financial planning and tracking within Planview, forcing the active ‘source of truth’ back on to spreadsheets and creating duplication, rather than simplification. Let me explain! In Portfolios, our Finance Details screen has been set up to reflect our corporate financial accounting structure. This is great - each month we can upload the actuals directly from the General Ledger and into Planview with no manipulation and can reconcile transactional level costs back to (overly complex) GL reports as required. BUT holding forecasts and
As of today, in Planview University I only see the following Certifications for individuals to obtain:Planview Connected Project Delivery Certification - Portfolios + ProjectPlace Planview Viz Professional Certification Planview Flow Framework Professional CertificationIs there any plans or defined release dates for rolling out more “certifications”? Specifically, I’d be very interested in certifications related to AgilePlace, Planview Hub, Portfolios, Portfolios Integrations and APIs.
In Portfolio and Resource Management, the "Actuals/Forecast" version is almost universally present. It consolidates both "Actual" data, typically sourced from timesheets, and "Forecast" data, often derived from resource requirements, reserves, and project allocations. This amalgamation offers a comprehensive overview of the project, encompassing expenditures incurred to date alongside estimated future expenses....Data within each financial plan version is organized into monthly periods. Put simply, past months house actuals, while future months hold forecasts. The current month reflects actuals up to the latest financial load, transitioning to forecasts thereafter. You might ponder, how do we distinguish between actual and forecast data within the current month? Though many financial managers tend to focus solely on end-of-month information and seldom delve into mid-month statistics, there's a solution. The optimal approach involves completing a financial load for a separate financial v
When a CRI stakeholder receives an email, there is very little detail of the CR. Risk or Issue, and when clicking the link to approve, there is no detail, just approval screen. For someone to see which project it is associated with, they have to click more than one link to see the information needed. This process is not good for executives that are less familiar with Planview Portfolios. We would like to be able to add additional information to notifications and approval screens.
We’re fielding a request to automatically populate the PP Head Admin Field with the LC Administrator. I know that if no PP Head Admin is selected, it would default back to the LC Admin. However, in this scenario, we have a configured screen where user can designate someone else as the PP Head Admin. The request is to have PPM Admin default to the LC Admin in that screen just for clarity for the user to see that LC Admin is the PP Head Admin. Easy to do with alternate structures, but not seeing options for LC Roles in scripted dialog config. Thanks to anyone that has run across this!
We are scheduled to migrate our Portfolios environment to the new AWS server. Just thought I would reach out and see if others have already gone through this process and if there are any lessons learned. Thanks in advancePam
Hi everyone, Just looking for some thoughts on how you manage the tracking of non-project time, where you have resources who work on projects but are not 100% project resources. How best can you account for this non-project work in Portfolios? Any guidance would be really helpful.Niamh
Hi -- has anyone found a way to find/ track old requirements after you run progression? My current understanding is that all “un-allocated” requirements are wiped from both the Plan screen and the Financials screen when Progression is run. In a similar sense, has anyone had luck separating allocations from requirements on the Financials screen for the Recourse Account? Thanks!
Does anyone use the Functional Estimating capabilities within Planview Portfolios? We are looking at this and although there is documentation on CSC I’m not finding it incredibly helpful. Would love to know how this is working for others, would you suggest the functionality to other PV customers, any gotchas or capability gaps?Thank you!Pam Sargent
Interested to hear how other customers record project “Assumptions” in Planview Portfolios.
Is there any guide or references which this community can redirect on how to form ekeys to utilise in Portfolio Webservices? For instance, ILaborRateCardService2 and Read Service will need input string like below: <arr:string>ekey://8/LaborRate_1/RateCardExtr001</arr:string>Where can I get more details on how to create there ekeys?
We have templates that we would either like resource roles or teams to be part of the current work templates. Wanted to know best practices on doing something like this. Thanks in advance!
Hello, Hoping someone can help us please- We want to change everyone we have in Planview portfolios, so that people can only book 70% of people’s time, so that we are protecting 30% for other activities. I know we could add everyone the activities in but its a big admin job, I have seen on other questions on here, that you can amend calendars but this looks to be for individuals (please correct me if that is wrong and it can be done for everyone in one go?) Thanks!
We’ve just implemented the Skills attribute for our resources and wanted to start doing some reporting. I’ve been digging through the documentation on the Success Center and while there is a table where the work multi-select fields (MULTI_ATTRIBUTE), I can’t seem to find where the equivalent table exists for Resources. Any ideas? We are looking to add the Skills to the Resource Portfolio Dashboard.
Planview Community,In this post and corresponding video, we will delve into various Resource Management tips and tricks that will empower you to leverage Planview's capabilities to their fullest potential. Let's dive in!Get the Most out of RMA by Using the Group By Pivot: By Pivot feature in RMA, resource management assignments can be efficiently managed by organizing data based on various criteria such as work name, resource name, or entity type. The sliding option allows for easy pivoting between different groups, while also enabling filtering by date range for a consolidated view Identifying Over- and Under-utilized Resources: By leveraging the Group By Pivot feature with criteria such as resource name and work name, users can analyze resource commitments versus capacity on a date-wise basis. This enables the identification of over-utilized resources facing excessive demand or under-utilized resources with capacity remaining unfulfilled What projects are my team working on: By pivot
Curious what PV customers have their time periods setup to end at the end of a week AND end of the month. We are exploring the option to set our time periods so they also end at the end of the month, which means that a time reporter may have to submit two timesheets within one week if that week is split between months. What are the hidden pitfalls we could run into by doing this?
Does anyone know if there is a way to display the 0 values in column sets. We have numeric fields where the value can be value, in the field it says 0 but when you look at it from a portfolio in the column sets it just displays as blank
We’ve started using the Targeted Subscriptions to sending missing timesheet reports on Friday’s to our managers. So far this is working well, but we can’t set the parameters to change the week. We’d like to send out a report first thing Monday morning to managers on who has not submitted timesheets for prior weeks. If we run the same job stream on a Monday it includes timesheets for the current week,We want to use the Targeted Subscriptions as we’ve setup a query that is based on Job Role. This makes it so we don’t have to manually maintain the To and BCC fields that are on a started subscription. The idea is this is automated and we don’t have to fiddle with a mailing list and can re use the same job stream. Is there a way to create a resource portfolio that ONLY contains resources with an Overdue or Disapproved timesheets? Or has someone developed a solution that does something similar?
We just started using the Skills alternate structure with in Portfolios to allow PMs to fill resource needs easier. We are about ready to roll it out but wanted to turn the Quality Ranks off or hide the drop down. Is there any way to do this? I don’t see any option on a configured screen to hide the drop down nor an option to turn it off from System Options. Is the only way to get rid of this to delete all the ranks?
