Frequency of Datamart Refresh

We are newly getting into PowerBI reporting and would like increase the datamart update frequency from once a day.    Does anyone have experience with this?  If so, what frequency is working for you?   Thanks!

Plan/Schedule "Template"

Does anyone use a “template” for their project Plan/Schedule? We use a very similar plan for a large number of our projects and it would be nice to have a template that these project plans could be built from and then dates and specifics just filled in. I don’t see a way to do that other than having a “Template” project in the system and having the PM go into that project and copy the Plan and paste it into their project. Is this the most efficient way to accomplish the task? Let me know if you have any other ideas.Thanks!!

WalkMe and Portfolios

Has anyone tried using WalkMe with Portfolios? We looked into it a while back and found it not to be worth the effort, but that wasn’t recent. I’m wondering if it has improved. It seems to me that there was something about Portfolios that made it hard to get content associated with specific screens or parts of the UI. Knowing some pros and cons would be very helpful.Questions include:Is it cost prohibitive? Does it require specific skills to set up? How much work is involved in getting it up and running? Is the maintenance load heavy?Thanks!Sue Ann Kendall

Managing Requirement, Reserve & Allocation

Whilst our PMs follow good discipline on the route of Require, Reserve, Allocate, and start with the best intentions, once the project is in full flow, on going management of those assignments tend to drop off. Does anyone know of a good training page / summary, perhaps, an equivalent call out diagram to the “Elements of the Timesheet Screen” in the success centre, which can help PMs manage their assignments on their Portfolios project?

Pv Clients with multiple Pv Products and multiple Client Product Owners

Hello everyoneThis is my first post in the Pv Community - so all guidance is very welcomeAs a client, we use 4 Planview Products for separate and unconnected Business departments in our client company.  Each product has a client product owner and unique set of stakeholders - all unconnected. There are only two topics in common between the products and product owners  1. The vendor (Planview)  2. The nature of the tool and stakeholders (involved in change management, with the product owner in a PMO type role). As a company we have evolved organically to this position and are now exploring if and how we can manage the products collectively, interface into the vendor (Planview) centrally and where the vendor and client may be able to add value through central oversight and management of 4 products and 4 separate support models/contracts. First question then is whether other clients have a similar experience to ours and if so, the second question is around if/how you have established some

Frequency of the Progressing Engine Running

I have posted before that our users are struggling with the progressing engine. Currently it runs every Sunday evening.     We are considering reducing the frequency that it runs to monthly.   Has anyone else done this?   Thanks!

Global Link URLs too Long

I am looking for an option that will allow me to create URLs as a Global Link in which the URL does not take up two lines.  Is that possible?Help is greatly appreciated.

How can we create a planning portfolio where capacity is given with one financial model and demand with another financial model?

We have two financial models, one for programs and the other for projects.When we do the planning portfolio in the capacity part, we select a program and the financial model of programs appears naturally.In the demand part a predefined project financial model appears and I cannot select the new one I created

Any users of Enterprise Architecture and Portfolios who are taking the June release?

We’re just testing the June release of Portfolios and see the Product Switcher ‘enhancement’ that brings access to the associated Planview Admin modules means we no longer have the ability to navigate directly from Portfolios to EA (EA is not yet on PV Admin).Has anyone discovered an alternative workaround to this which doesn’t involve giving our EA users different URLs to manually navigate to?This seems like a significant oversight and is potentially a showstopper for us taking monthly updates until it is resolved! I’d be keen to hear Planview’s reasoning as to why this navigation to EA has been lost, or what alternatives can be provided

Scheduled Finish AND Actual Finish

In what seems like a never-ending task of hunting down Resource Managers who keep corrupting our Project plans through various shortcuts they’ve found, I’ve just run into a new symptoms I’ve not spotted previously and have no idea how they’ve done it.Here we have resource allocated with a Scheduled Finish date AND and Actual Finish date - My understanding was that, whatever you do within Planview, it’s one or the other.  Task is Open/Active, resources have previous time recorded against the requirement, and views from the PM that somebody has recently gone in and messed up their plan.  This is a scenario which I just can’t reproduce. Anyone any clues what they would have done to drive different dates into each?

Progressing Engine Use without Timekeeping

HI,  we are using Portfolios without Timekeeping and with spotty Resource management usage.  Our PMs are struggling with the Progressing Engine (and Scheduling Engine) moving task dates.   We are considering if we should turn off the Progressing Engine because we are not sure the value for us.   Has anyone turned it off or is considering doing so?

Planview .ME Roadmap?

Hi - Is there a defined Planview.ME roadmap to see what widgets are being made available to Planview.Me and when? A lot of stakeholders were expecting a bit more to be released after some of the demos/news about Planview.Me.  I also question if it’s worth it to introduce Planview.me to our stakeholders without knowing if we’ll be getting new widgets, what those widgets will be, and when they are planned to be delivered. Any information on this would be very helpful, Thanks!

How do you Support PMs with Financial Tracking?

We’re keen to understand whether anyone else has experienced the same issues we have with financial tracking and how these have been overcome (within Planview or through other solutions) - please share your experiences below!We’ve been running Portfolios for 18 months now and one of the greatest omissions from our config and subsequently one of the biggest areas of feedback and pain points for our PM community was a solution to manage transactional level financial planning and tracking within Planview, forcing the active ‘source of truth’ back on to spreadsheets and creating duplication, rather than simplification.  Let me explain! In Portfolios, our Finance Details screen has been set up to reflect our corporate financial accounting structure.  This is great - each month we can upload the actuals directly from the General Ledger and into Planview with no manipulation and can reconcile transactional level costs back to (overly complex) GL reports as required. As of today, in Planview University I only see the following Certifications for individuals to obtain:Planview Connected Project Delivery Certification - Portfolios + ProjectPlace Planview Viz Professional Certification Planview Flow Framework Professional CertificationIs there any plans or defined release dates for rolling out more “certifications”? Specifically, I’d be very interested in certifications related to AgilePlace, Planview Hub, Portfolios, Portfolios Integrations and APIs.

Discrepancy in Resource Hours in Plan vs Staffing screens

Users are experiencing discrepancy in the allocations when viewing in days/FTE values in Plan vs Staffing Screens.Context: For Permanents they have 35hr/week calendar and for contractors they have 40hr/week calendar. When a permanent resource is allocated 100% on a project they are showing up as 17.5d in Apr 2024, whereas same resource in Staffing screen is showing up as 20.0d.Is there any way to make sure both screens follow same calendars and avoid confusion?

How To Track Actuals and Forecast Financial DataTutorial

In Portfolio and Resource Management, the "Actuals/Forecast" version is almost universally present. Custom Mass Update/Upload Tool

Hi All,    Has anyone had any luck or experience developing a Mass Upload/Update tool on their own to interact with Portfolio’s open API’s? I heard someone mentioned in another forum that they knew of a few companies that got this to work. I know Planview utlizes a tool themselves to update attributes in Mass from an excel sheet (or at least it’s prepped in a custom excel sheet). It would really help out with support if we were able to make these changes to any attribute, structure, resource information.  Just curious if anyone had any luck incolving any of this.

Email Notifications in Planview Portfolios for Change Requests to Include Work Name and Other Details

When a CRI stakeholder receives an email,  there is very little detail of the CR. Risk or Issue, and when clicking the link to approve,  there is no detail,  just approval screen.  For someone to see which project it is associated with,  they have to click more than one link to see the information needed.  This process is not good for executives that are less familiar with Planview Portfolios. We would like to be able to add additional information to notifications and approval screens.

Scripted Dialog to Populate PP Head Admin Field

We’re fielding a request to automatically populate the PP Head Admin Field with the LC Administrator.  I know that if no PP Head Admin is selected,  it would default back to the LC Admin.  However, in this scenario,  we have a configured screen where user can designate someone else as the PP Head Admin. The request is to have PPM Admin default to the LC Admin in that screen just for clarity for the user to see that LC Admin is the PP Head Admin.   Easy to do with alternate structures, but not seeing options for LC Roles in scripted dialog config.   Thanks to anyone that has run across this!

How do you track non-project time?
