Hey, all. I’m currently building the Project Manager persona view in Planview.Me and partnering closely with PMs across my organization to understand what visualizations, via the data visualization widget, would be most useful to them in their day-to-day work.Given the amount of available attributes, I’d love to tap into this community’s experience:Are there specific data visualization combinations that your PMs have found especially valuable or intuitive? Any home run visual setups that your PMs loved? Will be keeping insights at the work level, for now, but open to any type of chart available in the Data Visualization widget. Appreciate any examples or ideas!
We upgraded to the February 2026 version and noticed that, in this release, the “Connection Graph” tab is now displayed. The Success Center documentation states that the Connection tab can be enabled through Menus & View Settings; however, there does not appear to be an option to hide or disable it once enabled—it only shows a green check mark. I currently have a support ticket submitted and am waiting to hear back. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing this same issue.
I’ve had a PowerBI report running in our sandbox, pulling our Logbook data. It works, and then it doesn’t work. We are implementing Logbook in production this week, so I have pulled up our report that is pointing to our sandbox, made a copy, and am trying to point the copy to production. After numerous attempts at trying to make that work, I realized the sandbox connection isn’t working any longer. If I use “Basic” credentials, I can get the Portfolios OData data, but the logbook data throws this error: “Expression.Error: The 'Authorization' header is only supported when connecting anonymously. These headers can be used with all authentication types: Accept, Accept-Charset, Accept-Encoding, Accept-Language, Cache-Control, Content-Type, If-Modified-Since, Prefer, Range, Referer” If I change the Data Source Settings to use anonymous, and then refresh, I still get the Authorization error, plus I have the error on the Portfolios data “We couldn’t authenticate with the credentials provid
I know Planview suggests using Standard Activities for managing resources’ leave, however this does not prevent the resource from being allocated to work items during that time. Has anyone found another solution to manage leave?
We utilize Demand Managers to input Requirements into Projects. Those requirements are “Assigned To” a Resource Manager / Supervisor. Is there a way to prevent that Supervisor from “Over Allocating” to that requirement? We see this when a Supervisor needs to “fill time” for one of their employees, and the often do this by Allocating that employee more that the project requirement needs.
I would like to know if a resource is allocated let say 100 hrs on the task with 10% Tolerance so means he can book upto 110 hrs however he had book 150hrs which is now 40hrs over booking. So in that case should RM/PM go and update the -40 under the “Your revised column” or a resource has to put -40 hours. In a nutshell can someone help me understand the use case of that column with real time scenarion Thanks a lot in advance.
We currently use a risk assessment scoring model to determine Project Type and overall risk. While helpful, it does not fully capture project complexity, which we need to better determine the appropriate PM role (Business vs. IT, level of experience, etc.). Technical complexity is one example. We are not looking to change our risk model, instead are exploring other ways within Planview Portfolios to capture and evaluate project complexity. Question: Is anyone using lifecycle workflows, review gates, or role-based reviews in Portfolios to assess different dimensions of project complexity? Are there specific data elements that trigger additional reviews or notifications?
We are analyzing the possibility of having projects and sub-projects inside Portfolios. This will provide a holistic view on the overall main project as well as individual project progress and other attributes Possibility of reporting if this structure supports
Our PMs work really hard to edit the Shift Screen in ICP, but then they have to go and push the schedules of every project after we publish. Is there a way to Publish ICP to update the schedules in work portfolio to Shift Schedules?Same question for the Balance function, we are not using that yet but it is so much double work to ask them to figure out the Plan in Planning ICP area, then go in and change every project is there something that can automate all that work once the decisions are published?
Last year I raised a post about the use of the various inter-project dependency management options available in Planview - Successor/predecessor relationships in plans, investment dependencies, CRI logs, Roadmaps - the options are extensive but they all had their limitations. If you really need to create a ‘hard link’ between milestones in 2 projects, you only had one option - use the successor/predecessor relationships in the plan & leverage the Inter Projects Dependencies tile, accepting that this approach could result in cascading plan changes across the entire portfolio.I’m pleased to say that the latest Logbook release has provided a much more controllable solution - the Multiple Associations finally allows me to create a dependency record in a log, use this to hold the dependency context and create a ‘contract’ with my dependent project PM and link key milestones from both project plans without the risk on plan changes automatically cascading onto other projects. Some smart
We are using Logbook’s “Other” category to log data (name, date, team, comments) on our projects. We would like to be able to have a view showing ALL comments in one place...rather than having to go to each project and open the Logbook tab to see if there are any comments. I am using the Logbook Template V1.2.pbit to try and create a view showing all Work items that have a Logbook entry associated with them. In Power BI I’m trying to create a Matrix where the Rows are the Work item data and Logbook entry “name” (EntityAssociations: EntityID & EntityAssociations:EntityName, LogbookItems: Name), the Columns are the CustomAttributesConfigs: Name and the Values are the CustomAttributes: Value.valueWhen I try to use the CustomAttributeConfigs fields with the EntityAssociations fields in the same visual, I get an error - “Can’t determine relationships between the fields”. I get this error when I try to use these in the same visual. I can put them in separate visuals (list projects i
We are implementing entity separation in Planview across two organizations (e.g., Company A and Company B) that collaborate on shared initiatives. A key requirement is that named resources from one entity must not be visible to users in the other entity, even when the project or initiative is owned or managed by the opposite entity.Have you implemented cross‑entity project ownership while masking named resources? How do you handle actuals posting where PMs can see effort and cost, but only at the role level? What Planview configurations or patterns did you use (resource masking, role‑based actuals, aggregated capacity, financial‑only access)? Were there trade‑offs or limitations, especially for PM roles or approvals?
Is project Rate override not working for anyone else. We have a team member who needs to have a different rate at the project level. They are actually going to have a zero rate. We can not get any project level rate to save anymore. Is anyone else seeing this.
Has anyone created a BI report for Timesheet compliance?? We are trying to build one out via the automart and would like to see if other customers have also done this. Thanks much
Hello, We would like the ability to have a self-service option to enable/disable the AdaptiveWork Mobile App. There are gaps in functionality (e.g. configurations are not enforced) that allow users to do things that are undesired. Being able to at least disable the mobile app temporarily would give us a good stop-gap while those gaps are addressed.
The ‘replace resource’ functionality is really useful, but from a resource manager perspective it is hidden in a project screen. This functionality should be available from the capacity management screen for a resource manager to easily change one assigned resource for another.
Hi All,We’re expanding timesheets into an area where there is a requirement to track the actual times that resources clock in and out each day. After reading through the documentation, I have enabled the Time Log feature, and it captures the details that we need. However, I cannot find any reports to extract this level of detail. I have reviewed the FastTrack reports as well as the schema for the Automart. Is anyone else using this feature and how do you access the data other than by reviewing individual timesheets? Thanks
We are evaluating the most cost effective way to manage our licenses so are currently defining an archive process based mostly on lack of use. I’d also like to downgrade a Portfolio-R/W license to a View Only license if I could tell if the user has not made any data updates in the past three months or so. Does anyone know a way to do this?We are also considering alternative solutions like report subscriptions to keep licensing costs down and wonder if others have pursued this or any other solutions? Thanks!
I’m interested to explore adding skills to our resource pools (ideally driven from information hosted in our central resource/training database, but not critical), exploiting the skills criteria for Requirements & Allocation but to also report on any skills hotspots through PowerBI reporting.Information on the best way to configure and use the Skills in Portfolios seems very limited - does anyone have experience of this and any best practice they can share?
Hi everyone,I’m reaching out to ask whether anyone has experienced changes to system settings that caused OData queries to be limited to 50,000 rows.I recently ran into this issue in my environment—unexpectedly hitting a 50,000 row limit—despite previously being able to retrieve full datasets. After opening a support case, Customer Service resolved the issue on their end, but I still don’t have clarity on: Why it occurred in the first place, What was changed to fix it, And whether it could happen again. I’d be really interested to hear if anyone else has encountered similar behaviour and, if so, what you learned from your communications with Planview and/or what measures you’ve put in place to ensure continuity of complete OData retrieval. Thanks in advance for any insight the community can share!
We have a group that would like to have a version of the My Active Lifecycle Steps tile that includes a column for Project Manager and one for Business Sponsor in addition to the current column that shows the person/role responsible for the step. Is this possible? Any guidance on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!Robin
Hi AllRecently taken over Planview for my area and having a little bit of an odd issue. So we are trying to add some new columns to one of the Work Portfolio tiles and one is giving me some grief.Been able to add an alternate structure and a long text column without issue but trying to add a text field we have that has a 200 character limit is displayed a column with the right name but not pulling through any data into it.Notes I had been left behind say using the same code as long text would work but is clearly not doing it and wondering what the code needs to be.The attribute is as follows Code my instructions advise me to use is below which generates the column with the attribute name but showing any of the data in the attribute on the screens it has been entered on.(SELECT lt.line_text FROM [DBPATH]long_text lt WHERE lt.key1 = 'msd_approved_by' AND lt.key2 = cri.cri_code) AS Approved_By_Other
Greetings Everyone,I work for a State IT Agency, and I’ve been charged with creating an Ad-Hoc System Implementation schedule. This is in addition to the monthly Portfolio releases. I’m looking to answer question such as:What does your request Triage consist of? What does your Ad-Hoc Deployment and Release Schedule look like?Any information on this topic is helpful. Thanks :)
I have a request from business that for the fixed fees users we don’t want to allow then to enter time and nor they appear in the plan allocation dropdown/selection. What could be the potential solution to achieve these situation? For new fixed fee resource i will create only user profile and not the resource profile so that then cannot enter/book time. And i will assign then some role which is specifically just allow them to view Portfolio. What to do with those profiles which are already presnt in the system?
Dear Community, Has anyone else noticed anything strange when it comes to allocation details? Last year, one of our users reported that their name appeared in an allocation they couldn’t have created, they had no access to the resource or the project. After some analysis, we found out that the user wasn’t even logged into the system that day!We immediately opened a case with Customer Care, but so far, despite many attempts to prove that the issue is not on our side, we still don’t have a resolution and the data has been unreliable for more than a year!We even built a dataset from the allocation table to check for discrepancies between the created_by, requested_by, and approved_by columns. It turns out that in the requested_by column, there are cases where a person without the proper profile somehow managed to create a request for an allocation. They simply don’t have the right grants or role feature to perform the action.Customer Care suggested this might be related to copying project
